Semir Coralic, aka Mc Hero, was born on 15 November 1991 to a Bosnian-Serbian immigrant family. Growing up in modest circumstances in Zurich’s Kreis 4 would go on to shape his life in a profound way. He escaped the pull of the ever-present street crime first through his passion for martial arts and soon after through his great love for hip-hop. Aggressive street rap was like therapy for the young, hot-headed Hero – the mic his punching bag. Barely of age, he released his first tracks recorded with a simple webcam on YouTube and soon began to receive positive feedbacks.
In 2012, Hero started recording his music professionally. In close collaboration with producer Hittek, he created a series of mixtapes such as Isch so blibt so, Einmal Räuber immer Räuber and the EP Alles erlaubt. Thanks to word-of-mouth and his striking personality, the rapper quickly became a significant name in Zurich’s street rap scene.
At the beginning of 2020, Mc Hero signed with the music label Sektion Züri. His debut album Vo was redemer was released in 2021 and narrowly missed out on taking the top spot in the Swiss album charts. The release opened new doors and gave him access to an even larger fanbase. Being carried through the crowd on the hands of his fans at Sektion Züri’s wild shows says far more than any streaming numbers or chart positions ever could.
He didn’t rest on his success for long, though: it was time to follow up the debut, with a clear goal for the next project – the top of the charts. On 31 March 2023, his second album Schön hämmer gredet dropped, and this time nothing stood in his way: the record went straight in at number 1 on the Swiss album charts. Stunning visuals, infectious singles and honest advice every week on social media – Mc Hero doesn’t do things by halves when it comes to giving something back to his community. As part of the album campaign, he also set up his own football tournament and, under the banner Schön hämmer gspillt, raised money for a good cause. Numerous Swiss rappers took part, entered their own teams and contributed in their own way.
He also spent several weeks live on TikTok, taking the time to give his fans honest and open advice. From this, his own podcast was born: Schön hämmer gredet – der Podcast von Mc Hero, presented by CHEEZ, which entered its third season in August 2024 and has featured a number of high-profile guests.
In 2024, he has released three singles, with more to come. With his hard-hitting sound, the mutual love he shares with his neighbourhood, and his unmistakably cool, deadpan humour, Mc Hero captivates thousands of fans and, through his story, inspires the next generation of street rap.
